Split Ring Pliers After years of breaking fingernails trying to open split rings, I finally realized that a tool must exist to perform this task. And Mustad makes a great one. Mustad of course is well-known in fishing circles as a hook maker and this multi purpose tool takes its place along side their very good hook. Further, it belongs in every tackle box or fishing vest. Aside from its primary function (for me) of opening split rings, it works as a cutter and regular pliers.
Nice Tool, But . . . This is a nicely made tool, but doesn’t work for my intended use — replacing hooks on freshwater fishing lures with small split rings. I’ll probably keep this around for other uses, but I’ll need to try something else for changing hooks.
Mustad Fishing Pliers Great pliers for the price. These lasted the whole summer on Long Island Sound and they’re still sharp enough to cut braided line. Ideal for pulling hooks and changing rigs. I’ll get another set for next year.
